Women's travel jewelry can have inexpensive boho chic. Cheap accessories will give an inexpensive flash and change plain outfits into cool bohemian clothing.

One way to vacation, with inexpensive women's travel jewelry, is to go for a boho chic look. Not all Boomers can or want to pull this off, but a traveler can wear cheap jewelry accessories which will transform average standards into hip bohemian clothing.

What kind of jewelry should a Boomer Chick take on vacation? Well, she should research the place she’s going. Some impoverished nations have desperate people and good jewelry might be inadvisable. European cities are, generally, about the same as NYC, but gals should ask their travel agents.

There is no one answer. Some destinations are fine for "good" jewelry and some require discretion.

Fashion Jewelry

The safest bet is to leave all expensive jewelry in a vault at home, but not everyone is interested in that answer. While there is always a chance of having valuable jewelry stolen, the real concern should really be for one’s safety.

When traveling to a high-risk destination, it may not be prudent to take “good” fake jewels. However, cute and obviously inexpensive costume jewelry can be a fun solution to the dilemma. In the end, a girl has to make her own decision about whether or not to wear costume jewelry, real jewelry, or no jewelry.

Boho Chic for Boomers

A real boho chic look includes expensive and off-beat handmade jewelry, like these Diamond in the Rough stack rings, but a bohemian feel can be faked without diamonds of any kind.

And, sometimes, the best idea is to layer good pieces with fakey, faux things. Think like a gypsy, but don’t actually try to look like one (especially near the Eiffel Tower).

Bohemian Style:

  • Not too matched
  • Mix metals as needed
  • Nothing small and ditzy unless it’s layered
  • Don’t wear with preppy clothing
  • Start with one area for focus (neck, ears, wrist)
  • One or two big accent pieces usually work best
  • No peace symbols or kitty cats (over 40 or 50)

Costume Jewelry Necklaces

It isn’t too difficult to find artsy necklaces. Try channeling Armenta, Gerard Yosca, and Janis Joplin. An asymmetrical necklace is not as tricky as symmetrical ones, which often look better layered.

  • Ross-Simons.com: Italian Quatrefoil Necklace with Cultured Pearl in Two-Tone. It’s cheap and could be good with layers or on the end of a long chain or cord.
  • Ross-Simons.com: Maybe the Chocolate CZ Fleur-de-lis Necklace could work the same way, if it doesn’t look like Juicy Couture or hip hop, which would be too mainstream.
  • RichRocksnyc.com: Gold Necklace with Hanging Leaves and Wrapped Crystal.
  • Swarofski.com: Gem Black Diamond Long Necklace and Helium Necklace have important organic qualities.

Bohemian Jewelry - Earrings

Try not to match anything to make a set, but do try to get a nice similar feel going. Sometimes, one piece of jewelry is all that is needed.

  • Swarofski.com: Highlight Clip Earrings. These are probably better for night, though it depends upon one’s attitude. Older women should make sure that dangling earrings don’t echo the sagging of their jowls during daylight hours. (Swarofski has lighter dangles, too.)
  • MyShape.com: Look at their Faceted Citrine Earrings for a nice price or the Wendy Grace styles. The trick with earrings, like these, is to make sure they’re substantial, but not uncomfortably heavy.

Inexpensive Women's Accessories

Rings and bracelets seem to be the most difficult to pull off when it comes to fakes or cheapie items. It’s probably easier for friends to stare at fingers than faces, but look at these cheapsters:

Rings at Ross-Simons.com:

  • Rose Quartz Ring in Bronze
  • CZ Floral Vine Band Ring - shiny but not obviously fake
  • CZ Eternity Band in Vermeil in the wavy round-and-marquis style could be stacked randomly (with other rings) to look artsy
  • Silver Heart Motif Ring - a funky bought-it-in-Morocco look

Bracelets:

  • Turquoise Lapis and Enamel Cuff looks Moroccan or Mexican, but may need sister bracelets
  • Christie Brinkley Turquoise Cuff

It’s better to wear several pieces on one wrist than to try to even it out on two arms. See how the three silver bracelets look in the photo below. To make it more boho try adding something gold or unexpected.

Dress Your Age

For an adult Boomer Chick, the best way to make a bohemian look work is to pair the jewelry with something simple like a plain Travel Smith dress or a black top with black jeans.

Women’s travel jewelry can easily include an eclectic mix of boho chic jewelry. The point is to make it look like it’s a collection from one’s jet-setting travels. It shouldn’t match, but it should “go” together in a cohesive artsy vibe. Don’t overdo it, but don’t under do it, either.
