For lightweight packing, look for women's travel clothing made of gauze. Layering gauzy tops over anchor pieces will produce a sexy look without showing too much.

Women's travel clothing, made of gauze, means packing a smaller and lighter suitcase. And, layering gauzy tops over an anchor piece, like a plain black dress, can make a Boomer chick look cool and hip. It's an easy way for Boomer chicks to look sexy without looking like they're trying too hard.

Layering Tops: Why Gauze Rocks

Why do Baby Boomers like gauze so much?

Well, it covers bulges, bumps, and baggy skin, so that’s one good reason right there. However, gauze can also make an outfit look different in 5 seconds. Gauze items can be tossed into a carry-on without adding any weight, and gauze won't add any bulk to an outfit. The right pieces work like magic.

What is the best gauze piece to get? Anything.

Layers

A gauze tunic can be worn over any color camisole, but it’s especially flattering when worn over a black, navy, or dark dress (or tank top) of any color.

A white tunic or dress can be sexy, but not revealing, over a black camisole and leggings if the tunic is not too sheer. However, this look is probably probably best on a woman who is proportional.

The only way to know what works for a specific body type is to try on different styles, but the white gauze dress, over something like a black cat suit, has been seen in Southern California, in some casual situations when a bathing suit would not be appropriate. This look is great on a warm weather cruise, though heavier gals should ditch the leggings in favor of long black column dresses or black slacks.

Some gauzy tunics look fabulous over white anchoring pieces.

Even teenagers are wearing something like gauze, though it's plaid chiffon.

Gauzy Dress-Tunic

Here are some places to hunt for tunic dresses:

  • Athleta.gap.com: Athleta has a super cute gauze cover-up which looks terrifically boaty. The website even recommends layering this piece over pants and a tank. This tunic is rocking and comes in 4 colors.
  • SoftSurroundings.com: Well, their Silk Villa Top & Cami certainly won’t take up any room in a suitcase. Some women would vote for this to be a few inches longer, but gosh it’s fab over jeans. It could also balance out big hips over a longer dress, though a gal would have to check it out on her own body in a three-way mirror. This piece might be cute over an off-white dress.
  • MyShape.com: This is a super layering piece, it’s on sale, and it’s silk. It’s perfect. It’s the V-Neck Tie-Waist Silk Tunic. And, no gal needs to use the tie when she’s feeling bloated. Another idea is their Pintuck Cotton Voile Dress.
  • PyramidCollection.com: The Pyramid Collection has a cute sheer top in their mix, and it's called the Violette Chiffon Top. Sizing goes up to 3X.

Layering Sweaters

  • NormThompson.com: Norm Thompson has a short bolero length tie-front cardigan in light teal or black. This has to hit just right or a lady will look preggers.
  • CoutureCandy.com: Here is an expensive but beautiful tissue-weight tunic-length cashmere cardigan. It would look better over a solid head-to-toe color so there would be no line where the camisole ends.
  • Nordstrom.com: Eileen Fisher has a long open-knit black cardigan. And, it’s cute.
  • AnnTaylorLoft.com: Ann Taylor has an open-front drapey cardigan that comes in light gray, black and ivory.
  • Spiegel.com: Spiegel has a Lace Wrap Blouse which would be adorable as a layering piece.

Traveling Boomer chicks should learn to layer whisper-thin pieces over their basic anchor outfit. Of course, they will want to layer heavier sweaters or leggings in the colder months.
