Mannish pant suits, military coats and dresses are all part of Fall's runway looks. Choose from Country Girl plaids and tweeds, or a medieval-style hooded maxi.

The little black dress and architectually sculpted clothes with dramatic collars and bold shoulders, are just some of the major looks for the fall winter season. However, there are many more striking designs to whet your appetite and to get your wardrobe ready for fall.

Mannish Suits

Masculine tailored pant suits with wide legs and subtly exaggerated shapes have never been more alluring, with designers such as Lanvin, Hilfiger, Just Cavalli offering colors and fabrics which are understated in tweed and herringbone. Add a crisp white and some ultra high heels to show off the slinky shapes.

Military Trend

In an extension of the season’s Russian doll theme, military Cossack-style coats and accessories are inspired by Russian tsars, with brass buttons, shaggy fur hats and military caps. According to Marie Claire, August 2008, this is fall's hottest look in outerwear, with double-breasted military influenced coats and uniform styles. To make your outfit less austere, mix it with a mini dress or a volumnous, swishy skirt, to give it proportion and balance. There are also military-inspired suits, waistcoats and dresses, in blacks, reds and blues, with military-esque gold piping.

Check our Aquascutum’s tailored full-length coat and Jaeger’s double-breasted caped jacket, or Temperley London, for more military inspiration.

Medieval Trend

In the sprit of Guinevere and the Knights of the Round Table, add a touch of medieval magic to your wardrobe this season. Robe like dresses with slouchy snood-like hoods are reminiscent of the days of Camelot, with their floor-sweeping hemlines and monastic silhouettes. There are also bold studded dresses and chain-mesh fabrics giving a medieval twist to the season’s trend. Think King Arthur and the Lady of Shalott, with hooded floor-length capes and dresses adorned with heradic emblems. Fashion accessories also receive a medieval makeover, with chainmail purses and jewelry. Wear some of this season’s sexy, slouchy boots with a medieval-inspired tunic or mini dress. Marc Jacobs features a number of draped dresses and tops with hoods, influenced by the Middle Ages.

Country Girl Look

Plaids and tartans are everywhere this season from suits to coats to dresses to blouses, which go towards the sophisticated country girl look. Argyle sweaters, tartan jackets and skirts, and plaid wide-legged trousers and pants suits, offer a touch of the-great-outdoors style. Designer Ralph Lauren's fall collections features both masuline pantsuits and plenty of plaid, in outerwear, blouses and dresses. Dolce and Gabbana's runway collection has taken inspiration from British royalty, mixing tartan aristocracy-dressing with a Balmoral country look.

Add a pair of right-on-trend rubber boots or stylish riding boots, which have been given a modern-twist this season. Mix outfits with floral prints, and mismatch tweeds and plaids together for an edgy and esoteric style. Ditch the black opaque tights and wear patterned. Eye catching hosiery is a key runway trend this fall winter.
