Victoria Beckham's second dress collection has put her firmly on the designer map. Her timeless and ageless pieces have a young, modern, demure yet sexy feel.

Victoria Beckham’s Fall 2009 dress collection, launched on February 15, 2009 at New York’s Waldorf Towers as part of New York Fashion Week, has the fashion world singing her praises. Only her second collection, her chic but modern designs have won over the most die-hard of fashion critics, no mean feat for a style icon that critics seem to either love or love to hate! Harriet Quick of the UK's Daily Mail’ described her as a “master of transformation," in the Mail's fashion feature,“In Praise of Victoria Beckham,” of February 18th, 2009.

Victoria Beckham Fall 2009 Collection

Victoria Beckham's 23 fabulous pieces, which include dresses and capes, are stylish but timeless. Her second collection has a much younger feel, subtly sexy — demure and classy. Defined by sharp tailoring and a refined ladlylike aesthetic, classically-inspired dresses have an Audrey Hepburn and Rita Hayworth feel. Find them in timeless, sophisticated palettes of cobalt blue, black and cream as well as empowering tomato red and magenta. The outfits are kept simple, not to be outdone with showy accessories. Her dresses are forever pieces — investments that will work in any social situation, boosting confidence and making women feel feminine.

A welcome addition to the fall collection is a purple silk cape and a gorgeous black and gold minidress, with below-the-elbow sleeves. An elegant scarlet evening gown with gentle draping, skims curves and cleverly lengthens the body. For something a little more racy, there’s a rubbercoated tweed cape, worn with stylish skinny leggings which "Posh" favors so much.

Victora Beckham Spring 2009 Collection

Victoria Beckham has moved on since her first, spring collection was launched in September 2008. There is less of the school-teacher and more of a racy, younger feel. Her initial collection consisted of shift dresses with inner corseting and nape-to-hem back zips (J-Lo style), somewhat of a “prim-sexy” look. This limited edition of designs has proved extremely popular and sold out in days at Bergdorf Goodman.

Dresses for Real Women

Part of the Victoria Beckham's first collection is featured at Net-a-Porter.com. One of the biggest sellers is the black Orthez strapless dress, which Victoria Beckham herself refers to as a key investment.

As sales at Net-a-Porter have proved, her collection of dresses are not only for the fashion-forward. They are dresses that real women can wear. Part of their attraction is there demure yet still sexy styling, with the cut enhancing a women’s curves. “I have learnt over the years that showing off one element, either cleavage or legs, is enough,'"she told fashion critics for British Vogue magazine. Her outfits are carefully designed to look good from all angles; the back and side, as well as the front.

Victoria Beckham's mission is to design outfits which her customers would keep in their wardrobe for a long time. This means her pieces need to be both ageless and timeless; clothes which transcend seasons and will still look as good in 2012 as they do in 2009.

Victoria Beckham Designs

To create her winning designs Victoria often takes inspiration from her own outfits. She receives plenty of encouragement from good friend, designer Marc Jacobs, and is mentored by French designer Roland Mouret, most famous for his Galaxy dress, in 2006. She is also no stranger to the fashion world having already launched a denim line and a sunglasses range under the DvB brand.

It appears that after only two collections the sales of Victoria Beckham's outfits speak for themselves. She has firmly imprinted her stamp as an up-and-coming designer and silenced many of her critics.
