Trousers haven't been this fashionable for years. This is good news for women who feel more at home in a pair of pants. Check out the best of this season's funky styles.

Spring is all about pants. Baggy ones, skinny ones, straight-legged and cropped ones. From bold brights to nude neutrals and inky tones. No matter what your shape or size there are runway-inspired styles a plenty to take you from boardroom to bar, daytime casual to dinner date or from frumpy to funky fashionista.

Top trouser trends for Spring Summer 2009:

Harem Pants

The trousers on everyone's hips this spring is the hip harem pant. This Ali Baba inspired drop-crotch style is a tricky trend for many, but wear it with a tucked in fitted top to balance out proportions. High-heels are essential otherwise you’ll end up looking like a balloon. You can also work one of this season’s Arabian-esque all-in-one’s, for some extra style points.

Rock-chic Skinny Pants

Spring and summer’s leather and PVC sleek spray on styles are not for the faint hearted. This celebrity look has caught on in the high street, so wear them if you dare. Sky-scraper stilettos are a must for a leg-lengthening effect. Keep the look simple by wearing black skin-tight leather or PVC with a plain white t-shirt and a cropped jacket.

The 7/8th Ankle Crop

Last season’s length continues to grow in popularity – any excuse to show off some statement shoes. The 7/8th length trouser finishes just above the ankle, allowing you to flash a great pair of jeweled ballet pumps or showcase some sexy heels. Choose a pair in this spring and summer’s inky tones (black, blue or charcoal) and add a matching T-shirt or top. Throw over a boxy oversized blazer in white or cream for a minimalist look.

Bold-Colored Trousers

Whether it’s this season’s zesty orange and tangerine or bold pink, stand out in a crowd with some electrifying pants that will brighten up any room. The twist this season is color clashing — team bold tones such as orange, purple or fuschia with eye-popping contrasting bags and shoes. In their weekly magazine of Febraury 1st 2009, Net-a-Porter.com advises opting for “muted makeup tones of blush and honeydew to pare down electrifying shades.”

Straight-Leg Trousers

The eternal wardrobe staple when it comes to classic pants. To be right-on-trend this season, go for a pair with a paperbag waist or add a pair of metallic heels or a sequined tank top. Fitted cropped jackets work well with this look.

Denim Jeans

The humble denim jean is oh-so-versatile when it comes to seasonal style. Transform your pair by rolling up or scrunching up the legs and adding some chunky stacked platforms — skinny or straight leg jeans work best for this. Turn-ups are also back in vogue. Add a touch of sophistication with some gold neck chains and one of this season’s popular chain-strap bags.

Get the Look for Spring 2009

Whatever this season's styles, choose coordinating items carefully. Remember to balance out proportions. Baggy styles require fitted tops or jackets and high heels. Fitted styles can be given an on-trend look with oversized blazers and tanks. Add some of this season's gorgeous embellished or printed pumps for extra extravagance.
