TK Maxx sells branded clothing at discounts of up to 80%. Cheap designer clothes are very popular, but does TK Maxx represent a bargain or is there a catch?

Through the development of close relationships with leading designer clothing manufacturers, TK Maxx are able to offer branded clothes at large discounts to their customers. The designer clothes offered by TK Maxx are always genuine, but tend to be from the previous season.

The Global Presence of TK Maxx

TK Maxx has 210 designer clothing stores in the UK, Ireland and Germany. More impressively, it has approximately 2000 stores across America and Canada. The scale of TK Maxx means that it has considerable buying-power, explaining why such favourable deals are available on designer clothes.

Advantages of Buying Designer Clothes from TK Maxx

  • Cheap designer clothes. Massive discounts are available on TK Maxx branded clothes.
  • 'Red label' discounts. TK Maxx offers customers a designer clothing sale with even greater discounts than originally offered. Heavily discounted items can easily be identified by a red label and these special racks of clothing are usually very well sign-posted;
  • Excellent variety of branded clothes. Many of the top designer clothes can be found, including Tommy Hilfiger, Versace, French Connection and Ralph Lauren;
  • Designer clothing categories are easy to identify. Whilst items are disbursed in a similar way to a jumble sale, most items are grouped together making it easy to identify the appropriate section.

Disadvantages of Buying Designer Clothes from TK Maxx

  • Stains and holes. Given that the clothing is handled constantly by the public, it isn't surprising to discover that some items can appear worn. It is imperative that a full check is performed before paying for the item, since returning it with marks could prove tricky;
  • One-off items. It can be frustrating when TK Maxx bargain-hunters find an article of designer clothing that they love only to find out that there is only one item for sale and it is an XS. It can sometimes work in the shoppers favour as one-off items that fit regularly have the best discounts;
  • Staff availability. It can be virtually impossible to get assistance, especially on a Saturday or during a sale. This is a discount designer clothes store and doesn't offer the same level of service as a Ralph Lauren outlet;
  • Possible security issues. TK Maxx computer systems in Massachusetts and Watford were targeted by hackers. It is believed that details relating to 45.7 million accounts were stolen. No further issues have been reported since 2007 as security was tightened;
  • Safety checks. In October 2008 a customer bought a walking stick only to find it concealed a 20 inch sword. There was also an incident where a Swiss-branded coat concealed a pocket penknife.

Whilst TK Maxx does have its shortcomings, it represents an excellent way to save money on designer clothes. Try to shop at TK Maxx during the quieter periods, especially in the more popular stores. Take advantage of the special 'red tag' deals as they represent exceptional value.
