As the weather warms up and more and more women are showing some skin, there is no reason a plus sized woman can't look just as stylish and sexy.

Summer can bring anxiety for people who think they're overweight. Winter is so comforting, with the long sleeves and bulky coats to hide what people are most insecure about. It doesn't have to be so painstaking to update your wardrobe and dress in cooler, comfortable clothing. Showing skin isn't something to be afraid of, with a few tasteful tips it can be downright liberating.

Dress to Flatter Curves

Bigger women usually have bigger chests and larger hips. When selecting styles, plus size shoppers should look to accentuate these sexy curves. Look for styles advertised as "Empire Waist". Tops and blouses designed with an empire waist are usually gathered under the breasts and have a flowing, loose fitting waist area. These designs are extremely flattering and draw attention away from thicker midsections. Surprisingly there are many cute selections that are considered maternity wear, but are in fact just designed to not hug the stomach. Don't be embarassed to look in these sections, the most important thing is to feel comfortable in beautiful clothes. Also shop for designs that incorporate bell sleeves. Similar to flair leg pants, these tops flair at the wrist to draw attention down towards a woman's slender wrist and manicured nails, and away from chubbier areas.

Colors and Styles for Plus Sizes

The weight conscience should never, ever consider horizontal stripes on clothes. These designs give a barrel effect, making the wearer look round. Vertical stripes, and pinstripes are flattering and slimming. Polka dots are questionable, if they're too big it conjures a round image, and too small can be overwhelming. Solid colors are always a nice selection, and of course, black is a woman's best friend. On the opposite end of the scheme, white can make someone appear larger than they actually are. To avoid this, break up a mostly white outfit with accessories.

Accessories that Drop Twenty Pounds

Never underestimate the power of accessories. Heels elongate a woman's legs to make her appear taller and give a more proportioned look. Heels, even with a pair of jeans, can turn frumpy into fabulous. Jewelry can do wonders for deceiving the eye as well. "Y" shaped necklaces that are long, or dangly accentuate necklines and cleavage and draw attention away from less desirable areas. Long, slender earrings elongate the face and detract from round cheeks. Never choose jewelry that is circular or terribly large, it gives an overall feeling of "big". Be weary of belts that draw unnecessary attention to the midsection. Accentuate the positive by tying a scarf around a pony tail, or adding a little glitter to eye shadow.

Self Image is Most Important

The most important thing is how a woman feels in her clothes. No matter how beautiful a garment is, if the wearer feels confined, or struggles to keep everything in place, she won't feel beautiful. Finding the perfect outfit doesn't necessarily mean it has to come off the runway, but rather makes the wearer feel like a model when she puts it on. Check out stores that put as much effort into their plus size section as they do their misses. Cato has some cute clothes, Talbots and Lane Bryant are old standbys and for the edgier look, Torrid is a nice alternative to it's sister store, Hot Topic. Comfort doesn't need to be sacrificed this season, instead shop for ways to mix flattering style with seasonal flair.
