Department stores like Old Navy, Saks Fifth Avenue, JC Penney and others have plus-size sections, but some the net's best have the trendiest selections.

Not all women can fit into a size zero, and even a size 10 might not work. The fashion industry considers size 12 and up women’s plus-sizes. Many online stores have seen a remarkable increase in loyal patrons, and are catering to their chic fashion senses.

Jeans

Shopping for jeans can be a nightmare, but many online and specialty boutiques offer sage advice for finding a new favorite pair: never mind the size on the tag; it’s about fit and comfort.

“I learned a long time ago to not worry about the size,” Abby Z Designs’ Patty Stern said. “I remember putting Abby’s jeans on for the first time, and thinking…I felt like a rock star. I felt cool, pretty.”

Abby Z Designs (Abby Zeichner) and Svoboda (Jessica Svoboda) are highly regarded by their peers for their quality and fashion-forward thinking.

“They are the leaders in plus size premium denim,” Cherished-Woman’s Nancy Baum, said. Customers love their jeans and have a cult following in the plus community.”

Some outside of the plus-size community buy clothes by Abby Z.

“She has a lot of regular-sized fans of her clothing,” Stern said. “She crosses the borders, but she is very devoted and loyal to the plus size community.”

Variety Sites

Several online communities and specialty stores like Cherished-Woman offer a generous selection of work clothes, weekend wear or something sexier.

  • Lola & Gigi carries clothes that are both sexy, but classy and even friskier women.
  • Velvet Siren is posh, and specializes in clothing sizes 14 to 24.
  • Swak Designs has a larger selection, but is a bit subdued on style. This site is great for the checkbook.
  • Passazz is an eclectic online site started by “Sassy Sarah” who hails from the island of Malta. The site also features a “Big & Tall for Men” section.
  • Gayle Bentley made the news recently when her designs were worn by NBC's “Nashville Star” winner Melissa Lawson. Gayle prides herself immensely on helping women of all sizes discover their beauty. With over 35-years of experience, and the same passion she had when she started, Gayle is a generous fashion consultant. “That’s my biggest joy,” Bentley said. “Identifying personal beauty.”

Some of the Best Designs Ever

“Don’t wait to lose weight in order to treat yourself to some of the best designer fashion ever. Remember, clothing can always be tailored if you do lose weight,” Baum said.
