How to Look Good NakedQueer Eye's Carson Kressley Addresses Women's Body Image
Lifetime's new TV show by Carson Kressley allows women to take an honest look at themselves and teaches them how to accept their bodies.
Carson Kressley, who first came to fame on Bravo's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, has turned his focus on women in his new TV show, How to Look Good Naked. He undresses women, literally, and helps them to deconstruct their bodies in order to aid their mindset in how to accept and love themselves. There are lessons that Carson teaches the women that anyone watching can take away from it and incorporate these tips into their own lives. Not the least of which is the many women willing to strip down and show us what real women's bodies look like. The women on the show remove their clothing until they are standing in their bra and panties in front of a three-way mirror. This alone says a lot about both how brave these women are how much they are willing to undergo to work with Carson and strive to understand what he sees. The woman who is being helped on the show is shown a smallest-to-largest line-up of other real women in their skivvies and she is asked where she fits in, body-size. Carson has them focus on the area they are least happy with, such as their hips or their stomach. They tend to place themselves in between women that are quite a bit larger than they are. It is a good lesson that the image people have of themselves in their minds is often quite skewed from reality. Take a tape measure to chart your own figure and get a fact-based idea of what your shape really is. A change in underclothes can make a great foundation for your fashion. Women who are smaller on top might need a bra that rounds them out more, while women who are larger on top can opt for minimizer bras or simply bras that offer more support and are correctly sized. Many women with larger bosoms wear bras with cup sizes that are too small. If you don't have your curves smoothed out in your underclothes, adding anything on top is not going look as good as it could. The show presents interesting facts in text in a "pop-up video" style, such as "Adolescent girls have been shown to be more afraid of weight gain than getting cancer." Or, "When trying on bras, always fit the larger breast." Yes, all women have one breast that is slightly larger than the other; more proof that no body is perfect! Outside of clothing, getting to love your body means using your body in ways that are fun and give it energy. Going out dancing or taking a yoga class will allow you to have fun using that body that you are coming to accept and love.
