Whether you are looking for a unique one-of-a-kind prom dress or work attire, resale clothing shops are great guilt-free places to add to your existing wardrobe.

The Minneapolis/ St. Paul area is fortunate to have several stores for women who dare to wear vintage or gently used clothes. If you think consignment, vintage, and thrift stores are filled with clothes only suited for a Halloween party, think again. Resale shops are stocking up on all kinds of designer duds and business appropriate attire.

The Buffalo Exchange

The uber hip Uptown area of Minneapolis recently got a new addition- the Buffalo Exchange. The Buffalo Exchange is a national “greentailer” that sells new and used clothes. Customers can clean out their closets and bring in their gently used clothes for cash. Whether you’re looking for a great vintage cocktail dress or a designer bag, the Buffalo Exchange is sure to satisfy and be kind to your wallet at the same time.

Arc’s Value Village

Arc’s Value Village is a thrift shop with three locations in Twin Cities suburbs Richfield, New Hope, and Brooklyn Center. Hidden among dozens of mundane sweaters and Kathy Lee for K-mart clothes are a few hidden gems. If you are willing to take the time, you can find some real bargains from mall chain stores such as Express; newer designers such as Charlotte Tarantola; and some cool vintage jewelry. However, since Arc is a thrift store where clothes and accessories are donated, be sure to inspect your items for wear and tear before purchasing them.

Lula's Vintage Wear

Tucked away in St. Paul’s unsuspecting Midway area is Lula’s Vintage Wear. Expect to find the best in vintage labels in this store, such as Gunne Sax from Jessica McClintock and Young Edwardian. Prices start around $15 for a top and $45-$50 for a dress. You’ll pay extra for more elaborate frocks with integrate beading and sequins. Their staff is always helpful and friendly plus they are knowledgeable about vintage.

Ragstock

A favorite of college kids everywhere because of its rock bottom prices, Ragstock sells edgy new and used clothes. Ragstock now has seven metro locations including two stores at the Midwest shopping mecca, Mall of America. Geared more for the younger crowd, punky kids will be happy with Rackstock’s selection of punky plaids and band tees while hippie girls will swoon over the flowy bohemian poet shirts and broomstick skirts. Be sure to check out their vintage prom dresses at their Uptown store. However, customers looking for less adventurous fashion choices will appreciate Ragstock’s selection of budget priced tees, tanks, and jeans.

Turn Style Consignment

As their name suggests, this is a consignment shop so you will find styles from a few seasons ago for less. Customers can walk in and consign their gently used clothes Monday through Friday without an appointment as long as they have 25 or fewer items. Buyers at Turn Style are label conscious, so their racks are abundant with brands such as Juicy Couture, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, L.A.M.B., Betsey Johnson, and Nanette Lepore. Turn Style Consignment is also a great place to find stylish work clothes for plus sizes and petites.
