Whether it be Freesia, Spring Crocus or Cantaloupe, according to the fashion world's king of color, next season's colors reflect the floral tones associated with spring.

Spring 2008 sees brighter, livelier tones, which provide a welcome respite from the monochromed world of Winter 2007. Based on the Pantone Color Report Spring 2008, black is replaced with a classy Silver Gray, which blends elegantly with its springtime palette. Classic muted-neutrals include beige tones, light-green and olive hues such as Croissant, Daiquiri Green and Golden Olive.

What is the Pantone Color Report?

Pantone Inc, one of the most influential authorities on color in the fashion world. It surveys collections from designers taking part in New York Fashion Week to establish their color philosophy and inspiration. The Pantone Color Report for Spring 2008 not only features the colors for next season but included sketches and comments from some of the fashion world's leading designers.

The foremost king of color, Pantone is a market leader in providing insider insights to what will hit our high street stores in the months to come. Their report includes palettes of colors for the season, and serves as a reference for the fashion media, retailers and fashionistas alike. Whether it be clothing, designer bags or other accessories, Pantone’s color palettes show us what we can expect for next season.

Top Ten Colors from Pantone’s Report for Spring 2008

Fashion Trendsetter.com, the online fashion forecasting E-Zine, says, “According to the report, the spring '08 palette is defined by classic, versatile neutrals punctuated by splashes of invigorating brights, empowering consumers to explore new and creative ways to combine colors.”

With vibrant and uplifting colors and flowery deep pink undertones, "The spring '08 color palette perfectly reflects the cheerfulness of the season. Stabilizing neutrals combined with pops of brighter colors to create unique, distinctive looks are the basis for a great spring and summer wardrobe”, says Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman.

Reds, Purples and Pinks

  • Spring Crocus is one of the most wearable and prettiest hues as it mixes pinkish lavender and soft purple.
  • Pink Mist is a cool, crisp shade of lavender pink, very subtle and flattering.
  • Cantaloupe is a warm, soft peachy pink, reminiscent of soft rose petals.
  • Rococco Red is an exciting and invigorating pinkish red, which blends boldly with other pinks and purples.

Greens and Blues

  • Daiquiri Green a subtle earth-tone, soft and gentle like the first buds of spring. An elegant pastel minty-green that compliments one of the season’s keynote colors Silver Gray.
  • Snorkel Blue is an energetic bolder blue, providing warmth and sophistication.

Yellows and Browns

  • Freesia, exactly as the name suggests, mirrors the bold yellow vibrance of the freesia flower. Cheerful and friendly, this browny yellow is uplifting and inviting.
  • Golden Olive needs no introduction. Soft pastel mixes of greens and browns suits most skin tones. The color of this almost-ripe Mediterranean olive provides a sound base for this season's creations.

Keynote Color

  • Silver Gray, soft subtle and versatile, flattering and elegant, this keynote color replaces the harsh black of the winter. Perfect for the transparent fabrics which designers favor for spring. Reflecting a natural hue found in mother-nature’s garden Silver Gray is the color of fur, pebbles and springtime clouds.

From designer creations of the runways of New York Fashion Week Sept 07, spring 2008’s soft grays, greens and browns are featured in flowing, feminine maxi-dresses and tribal influenced safari mini dresses and suits. Inspired by the springtime colors of lilacs, pinks, blues and greens, floaty florals are a big feature too.

The Pantone Color Institute has been a world authority on color for 45 years, providing products and services to design professionals. It also offers paint and designer-inspired products and other services to consumers.
