Medieval robes, chainmail accessories, architectural shapes and Rock 'n Roll biker chic. These are just some of the hottest runway looks for the Fall 2008 season.
This fall & winter sees some modern makeovers in the women's fashion department, with plaids and purples reigning supreme. From Rock n’ Roll biker chic to Russian peasant, demure country girl tweeds and volumed-up sportwear. The little black dress also comes into its own; no longer just a wardrobe staple, but a must-have item of the season, with dramatic structured shapes. The hottest looks on the runways range from the ladylike to the bold and brazen. According to Marie Claire, August 2008, Balenciaga is one label that sums up the looks of the season, with its futuristic strong sculpted shapes, high-tech detailing and creative use of fabrics. Fall FootwearSoft slouchy footwear is also making a comeback, with some gorgeous knee-highs and ankle boots. A perfect accompaniment for the season’s strong, sculpted architectural shapes. The Joi Slouch boot and Chloe’s suede wedge heel wrap-around, are 2 such examples, you'll find them featured on theshoegoddess.net. Heels this season are of skyscraper ,vertiginous proportions, (the higher the better), with heel-art still making a fashion statement all of its own. Fall Fashion Runway Trends The huge variance in runway trends this fall should please all ages and tastes. For die hard fashionistas there are dramatically constructed clothes to get you noticed, with sculpted collars and volumous sleeves. For the younger set, there's an updated twist on the rock ‘n roll and punk era, with toughended up biker jackets. There's romantic Russian folklore prints, and for those that like their outfits more demure, a country girl look or opulent luxe fabrics from silk to satin. The sportswear look has become fashion-forward too this season, with pumped-up volume (jackets with voluminous shoulders and hips) and sexy styling. The emphasis is less on tracksuits and more on looking sporty but glamorous, balancing out volumnous tops with shapely, svelte lower silhouettes. Fabrics of satin and silk toughen-up quilted Puffa jackets, and luxe detailing included fur trips and animal prints. Fashionistas are even invited to take a trip back to the Middle Ages with robe-like dresses with hoods, and long flowing capes, such as the Marc Jacobs draped hooded robe, Julien MacDonald’s chainmail gown, and Stella McCartney’s Medieval-style tunics, topped off with cuffed knee-high boots and chainmail purses and accessories. Patterns and PrintsThis season’s fashions are awash with plaids, tweeds, tartan and argyle prints. Add to that fall florals in esoteric designs, styles to be deliberately mismatched with patterned tights — a huge accessory trend for Fall Winter 2008. Colors for FallRegal purple reigns supreme in glorious velvets, silks and satins. Elegant silver gray provides this season’s neutral. Eye-catching russets, ochres and evergreen takes you through a leafy journey and earthy burnt oranges and beiges provide a canvas for strong patterns and plaids. Metallics are more muted for fall, shimmering gently. All in all there is something for everyone this season, from the most discerning of fashionistas to the woman who just wants to dip her toe in a trend, with a pair of look-at-me tall slouchy boots, a padded puffa jacket, fall floral skirt or sculpted little black dress.
