Clothes Show LondonThe Live Fashion Extravaganza Comes To London
Having taken place in Birmingham in the past, the Clothes Show Live will be hitting the capital.
If you are not in someway affiliated with the fashion industry, then it is notoriously difficult to secure a ticket to a fashion show during London Fashion Week. The Clothes Show Live provides a great opportunity for fashion lovers to side step the elitist world of Fashion Week shows and experience the fun and excitement of attending a fashion event. From TV Show To Live EventThe Clothes Show started life as a BBC TV show, first screened in 1986. The programme was the first of its kind, bringing high fashion catwalk outfits to the general public and showing them how to recreate the looks themselves. Presenters included fashion designer Jeff Banks and fashion journalist - ex i-D fashion editor - Caryn Franklin. They imparted their expert knowledge and helped turn The Clothes Show into essential viewing. The show became a huge hit and due to this, in 1989, became a live extravaganza, giving the viewers an opportunity to become more involved with the fashion world they saw every week on TV. The creation of the live event encouraged audience participation on a mass scale and in many ways preempted the culture of modern TV shows, like X-Factor whose success relies on viewer participation. The Clothes Show LiveThe Clothes Show Live is now in its twentieth year and has, in previous years, taken place in the not-so-glamorous location of the Birmingham. Although there will still be a Clothes Show Live event in December there, this year, the Clothes Show London has been added, giving people in the fashion capital of the country a chance to enjoy the experience. Many elements of the TV show remain; fashion experts are at the event to give fashion and trend advice, including highly respected Telegraph Fashion Editor, Hilary Alexander and model Erin O’Connor, who actually started her career after being spotted by a model scout during the 1995 Clothes Show Live event. The show provides opportunities for aspiring models, designers and fashion lovers to get their fix and maybe make that all important contact to kick start their career. The centrepiece of the Clothes Show Live is the Fashion Theatre, which is a big-scale fashion show, spectacularly showcasing many designers from Burberry to Debenhams, mixing high fashion with high street. There are also awards ceremonies, beauty presentations and a vintage fair. It truly is a unique fashion experience, making high fashion more accessible to the public in an entertaining package. Although The Clothes Show is no longer on TV screens, the live event continues to prove a huge hit and takes place every year.
