Here are few Spring pieces that are on-trend, but still easy and functional enough for moms headed to the playground.
Mothers of young children need fashion to be easy, comfortable, and washable. The following options prove that today's trends can be all three of these things. Tailored JacketsThe boyfriend jacket trend has really taken hold this spring. Now, no mom in her right mind is going to wear a suit jacket to Little Johnny's play date...or would she? Today's jackets come in an array of wearable/washable fabrics, making them more accessible for everyday wear. Take Mike & Chris' fleece three-quarter-length sleeve boyfriend jacket. The super-soft fleece jacket has all the tailoring of a traditional blazer, but with a modern twist in its length and fabric. J. Crew's cotton Military Boyfriend Jacket is another option and can easily be paired with a dress, jeans, or even shorts. The key to looking pulled together is in the tailoring of the jacket. There are some oversize jackets out there, but better to stick to a good fit, which never goes out of style. Shirt DressesA shirt dress that fits well is extremely flattering on many body types. For cooler spring days, pair with tights and comfy flats of the same color for a young, chic look. For summer, throw on with flat sandals or, for a little lift, wedge espadrilles. They come in an array of prices and styles from Merona's affordable, colorful options at Target to a linen belted dress by Victoria's Secret to Diane Von Furstenberg's iconic wrap dresses. And, because shirt dresses shift easily through different seasons (sandals in summer to knee-high boots in fall), frugal mommies will get the most bang for their buck. Not sure what shirtdress works for what shape? Hourglass figures can opt for a contrasting belt to highlight a small waist or boyish figures can try a wrap style to add curves, says the Stylist site in its Basic Rules for Wearing a Shirt Dress. T-Shirt Tunics/DressesTunics are a comfortable way for moms to access the can't-be-stopped boho chic look. Best thing about tunics is they elongate and hide unflattering areas. It's best to focus on loose-fitting styles and always wear something slim-fitting underneath whether it's straight-leg or skinny denim, or leggings. Free People serves up a variety of colorful, patterned or embellished tunics that can be paired with your favorite jeans and sandals for a fun, warm-weather look. Try skinny jeans and gladiator sandals to up the chic-factor. For something more understated, James Perse – a brand known for its seamless blend of lux and casual – does woven knits that are easily layered with a cardigan or worn with denim and a jacket for a more polished jeans-and-t-shirt look. Play up the simplicity of the brand's tunics and dresses with a bold piece of jewelry – a strong trend this spring. Ethnic-Inspired TopsPeasant tops with South American, Indian, and Oriental touches are making a splash this season. With gathered neck, arms and waist, these blouses flatter and hide. They also go great with a variety of bottoms from any pair of jeans (bell-bottoms, straight leg, skinny, wide-leg trouser) to a khaki skirt. So, this spring, don't be afraid to try something new. The right outfit isn't going to eliminate those sleepless nights with a teething toddler, but it sure can take the edge off.
