Bra Faux Pas

Don’t Expose Your Straps

Jun 9, 2009 Erika Thomas

Avoid these bra faux pas that are sure to take the most fashionable of ensembles from tasteful to tawdry!

There isn’t anything better than finding the perfect outfit and then topping it off with the accoutrements of shoes, jewelry and a handbag. However, nothing can bring your look to ruins like exposed bra straps. In fact, forgetting to find the right foundation is the equivalent of dining out and forgetting to leave the tip, or attending a wedding without purchasing a gift; in fact, this is one tacky blunder that should be avoided at all costs; so, how does one prevent her underpinnings from playing peek-a-boo in public? Thankfully, the solution is simple.

Drive a Convertible

For most strapless, asymmetrical and halter tops, there are some great solutions, like the Victoria's Secret 100-Way Strapless Convertible Bra. This bra has straps which are easily re-fastened to accommodate whatever kind of blouse, top or dress you are wearing. If you don't feel you need a bra that does quite so many tricks, yet you love to wear tank tops, in particular the racer-back, still, there are more solutions.

A culprit all its own, the racer-back tank is a style which is guilty of showcasing bra straps on a regular basis; and even scarier, this tank top is often seen featuring a strap extravaganza of sorts, whereby individuals layer a spaghetti strap tank with a racer back, all worn over the top of a bra. The result; mismatched mish-mash of straps gone awry. In a word, this look is just plain cheap.

Thankfully, the solution comes by way of the Perfect Strap; a small circular disc which attaches to the back of your bra’s straps to secure them in place and keep them out of sight; and like most bras on the market, it comes in shades such as black and nude which makes it easily matched to any bra and virtually invisible under your clothes.

Coup de Bras

Lastly, the coup de gras of bra faux pas; the final blow if you will, to all such faux pas. What is the only thing worse than your bra straps sticking out of your clothing? The presence of dirty, soiled bra; this tells the world not only didn’t you invest the time in finding the right bra, but you didn’t take the time to wash the one you have. What's more, is that a recent study on the topic by a British stain expert company reveals that "lack of washing means that bras look tatty, grey and dirty", but even worse, the contact of such dirt so close to your skin exposes it to an increased risk of "irritation trough a build up of bacteria" as the bra fits so closely with the skin.

With this in mind, its easy to see why cleaning your bra regularly is so important. To ensure that you have a bacteria-free bosom, try a product such as Woolite or Forever New to launder your lingerie and other delicate washables. It is a small investment, and well worth it.The truth is there are far too many solutions out there for a gal to be committing such a faux pas with her foundations.

I agree with the author that the Victoria's Secret 100-Way Strapless Convertible Bra is the perfect solution for the hard to fit plus size women because of its flexible straps. I also found some nice collection of plus size strapless bra. Remember that a strapless bra is a crucial bra to fit. It has this amazing task of controlling the breast tissue and weight with no straps over the shoulder.
