If there is one thing that larger sized people are good at, it's not admitting their true size.
But then, this is a habit of the community as a whole, not just larger people
The problem lies in that with those of us who have extra bulges: we really do need to wear clothes that fit us well to look our best - on us a smaller sized blouse will not look tight and sexy. It will just look tight and ill-fitting.
So - the first step in your looking the best you can is to admit what size you wear.
Strip naked and stand in front of a full length mirror (do this at home - air conditioning can get a bit chilly and people get annoyed if you are in a change room for more than 15 minutes at a time!).
Look slowly up and down at the person in the mirror - and really see what is there. Look at yourself as if you were a stranger. Note where your lumps and bumps are. Look at your shape.
As you know, human females come in several different shapes - no matter what size you are. L&L's come in a couple of extra too (see - we are just square pegs trying to fit into round holes - and thus UNIQUE!). So read these descriptions to the end, and decide which ones fit you best. In fact, ask your best friend to help (and you can help her decide on her shape as well)
The basic shapes are:
Pear Shape Pears are small at the top - narrow shoulders, and small busts. Instead of a bustline, Pears have HIPS! As one lady I know says about her hips "I have wide, child bearing hips. In fact I would go so far as to way they were wide, litter bearing hips".
Hourglass Ahh - the ideal is the Hourglass. You may have seen it as "32-22-32". Well - nobody is like that, but with the Hourglass, you will have shoulders and hips roughly the same size, and with a definate waist (despite the bulges above and below - you will find if you have a definate waist). Famous Hourglasses were Mae West (who was actually above a size 16!) and Marilyn Monroe (who was a size 14 to 16). All women want an hourglass shape, but only L&L's are lucky enough to ever really have that elusive shape.
Triangle This is really easy - a Triangle is like an upside down Pear. Big bust, no waist or hips.
Rectangle Most models are Rectangles - no shape at all! Shoulders and hips the same size, and no real waist to speak of. Their bust is usually a little smaller than average (or smaller than average).
Apple This is truly a plus-sized shape. It's round. Not a great deal of shape - Very much like a rectangle but with smaller hips and shoulders. Very rare this, and not many women have it.
So after reading them through do you have some sort of idea? Are you surprised at what you are? Many larger ladies truly have hourglass shapes - but who would know by the way they dress? Big, beautiful women are usually Pears or Hourglasses - with a few Rectangles sprinkled through them.
After you decide on your shape, then you have to stand back and take your measurements (by the way - as many ladies know - normal tape measures can be too small - look for an extra-long Quilters Tape Measure - they are 2 metres long!) and compare them with the back of a paper pattern chart.
And then take a deep breath and say out loud what size you are. Don't be frightened - this is a very liberating move on your part.
This is when you admit to the world just how Big & Beautiful you are - and when you take your first step at revealing the true beauty you have.
And you do. Have you ever wondered why some larger women look so great, and some look terrible? It's because the ones who look great have admitted their size, and are wearing clothes that fit them. (Tent's don't count!)
Take a deep breath, and let's take the first step together.
