Check out the top trends for Spring 2009. Whether it's bold bright colors to bannish the winter blues or this season's sexy bandage dresses, slouchy jumpsuits and harem pants: All-in-ones — jumpsuits, rompersuits and playsuits – so many styles from sexy to utility, evening wear to casual. Instantly update your wardrobe with a “one-sey” and throw over a boxy blazer for extra fashion cred. Bandage Dressing — the smoking hot dress style of the season, figure-hugging and figure constricting, inspired by the runways of Hervé Léger. Hair and accessories should be uncomplicated as this dress makes enough of a statement on its own, although bandage-style sandals make the perfect companion. Color Blocking — two-tone color blocking in bold, bright shades of pink and orange, blue and purple and yellow and red — keep the outfit simple and let these dramatic hues speak for themselves. Denim — acid wash ripped jeans and torn denim is a favored celebrity look by the Hollywood set. The 2009 take on ripped denim is sexy and revealing, in jeans and the shortest of shorts. You'll find shredded-up denim pieces which leave little to the imagination. Eighties Power-dressing — revivals are in for spring with ’70s and ‘80s retro colors and Dynasty-style shoulders and dramatic necklines and lapels, courtesy of Dolce & Gabbana and Balmain. Fringing — flirty flapper-styles are setting hearts a flutter From the fringed hems of Chanel and Hermès to trimmed seams at Balenciaga or full-length fringing from Jil Sander. The prize for the funkiest fringing goes to Terexov. Geometric Prints — showstopping monochrome geometric prints like those from Zac Posen and Stella McCartney will transcend seasons. Black and white bold graphics that are sophisticated, sexy and chic. Harem Pants –— will get you instant style points if you are brave enough to wear them. East meets West with these slouchy and cool, dropped-crotch trousers, taking inspiration from Stefano Pilati's part dhoti part harem designs at YSL. Kimono-styles — influenced by the Orient with Occidental tailoring, this spring sees kimono sleeves, kimono backs and low-cut V-neck kimono fronts on tops, dresses and jackets. Jackets — ornate, leopard print or striped, stand out from the crowd with bold prints or embellishments but wear them loose and baggy, boyfriend style. Latticework — mesh-style footwear from YSL’s caged booties to Loeffer Randall’s Neve ankle boots are spring and summer’s sole sensations. Just be sure to wear them out of the sun to avoid funny tanning lines! Metallics — not shiny but dull are the look-du-jour. Metallic accessories in bronze, copper, silver and gold spell glamour which dazzle all day and all night. Invest in a pair of leg-lengthening metallic shoes if you want to dip your toe in the trend. Nude Pastels — feminine and delicate nude tones in honeydew, blush, sand and putty in transparent chiffon and satin – these ooze sophistication. Protect your modesty by layering fabric to give a more opaque effect as showing your underwear is so last season! One-shoulder Dressing — modern style toga dresses and gowns lead the way in providing a trademark style which screams spring 2009. Show off those shoulders in an asymmetric mini dress; the above-the-knee length is a fresh, flattering alternative to classic goddess gowns. Prints — from artsy to tribal, bold geometric monochromes to kaleidoscopic colors , give-or-take the odd ditsy floral, this season’s prints are unashamedly bold and bright. Quirky Colors — lightening bolts of orange and pink, cobalt blue and sunshine yellow dominate the runways for spring summer. Never have colors been so bold, with ‘80s citrusy neon brights, electrifying spring and summer outfits. Ruffles — flouncy folds and ruffles can be found on everything from bags and shoes to dresses and swimwear. Don't want to over do th e girlie look with one of this season's ruffled dresses? Then go for an on-trend ruffled purse in neon colors. Sequins — add sparkle to spring with heavy sequined embellishments which are back in a big way. One-shouldered dresses and tops, bags, belts and scarves — all add some sparkle to spring. Tuxedo — a mannish tuxedo is a good investment piece, as well as being sophisticated and right-on-trend. Wear it over a feminine and flirty dress or a pair of palazzo pants. Updated Gladiators — bolder, strappier and more confident than ever, will this Roman invasion ever die? Pastel colors to metallics to ‘80s punk studded flats, there’s a look for every outfit, from maxi dress to peg-leg trousers to cocktail bathing suit. Vaudeville & Trash — is how Style.com describes the revalitized ‘80s fashion of ripped denim and shredded lace, from Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, Meadham Kirchhoff, and Balmain. YSL — caged ankle boots and sandals with metal grid heels are rocking the fashion world, so is Stefano Pilati's unisex range for Spring 2009. Edition Unisex takes 18 looks from YSL's menswear collection and reworks them with a feminine feel, cleverly tweaking the iconic trademarks of men's clothing. Wet look Leggings — PVC trousers have become a wardrobe staple for celebrities (Victoria Beckham, Lindsay Lohan, Nicky Hilton) of late, and are now taking hold on the runways of Top Shop. To be worn with a loose fitting top and lots of attitude! Xtreme Jewellery –— from huge statement necklaces, oversized hoops to gigantic cuffs. Belts have got wider too. Elastic back belts make a big comeback to accentuate those curves Zips — are the new embellishments. From Versace’s white inspirational dress made entirely from zips and YSL’s clean-cut, triangular-sleeved dress, zippered from bust to knee, to zipped cuffs, purses and heels. If you are having to tighten the purse strings this season, it only takes a few pieces to get your wardrobe ready for spring. For some key statement pieces go for a bandage dress and a chic jumpsuit in classic neutrals, plus a timeless, versatile geometric print. Accessorize with a splash of orange or pink, a bold color bag or belt will prove a longer-term investment than a neon-bright dress.
